The flash and fire of Liszt, the emotional surges of Smetana, the guts and glory of Wagner - all the colors in Stokowski's rhapsodic repertoire are here on display.
The legendary Leopold Stokowski was one of the great personalities of the podium as well as a leading interpreter of Romantic orchestral repertoire. Stokowski's profound commitment to the emotional impact of classical music is captured on Rhapsodies, his most popular Living Stereo. Multi-Channel SACD plays back on Three Channels.

This sacd is truly wonderful. Under the leadmanship of Stokowsky all music becomes something extraordinary. Start with the majestic notes of Liszt's Hungarian rhapsody and end with Wagner. And don't forget smetana's moldau!

...Then I switched to the three-channel mix on the SACD. The orchestra became much wider and deeper on the soundstage, with the flute solo in the Moldau front and center with greatest clarity and presence... audaud.com

Thank you for a nice disc.
ReplyDeleteDear fried thank you very much for the music and...
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Thank you very much!
ReplyDeleteHaha! I literally ordered this SACD from Amazon late last night (very cheap, luckily) because I wasn't happy with the sound of my XRCD24 version (the XRCD issues are very good but the hybrid SACDs are even better, being mastered directly from the session tapes). I should have checked this site first!
ReplyDeleteI think it's amazing how good the remastering is on these hybrid SACDs (even just the CD layer). These discs are certainly as well mastered as the Analogue Productions Nat King Cole discs (which were also mastered directly from 3-track session tapes) and yet these are soooooo cheap!
I am downloading your kind share now, which means I can make a 24/88.2 copy with Saracon. MANY MANY THANKS! :)
I quite strongly disagree with the audaud.com review, which compares the XRCD to this SACD hybrid. The hybrid is way superior to the XRCD, even for just the 2-channel CD layer. It's cleaner and clearer and sounds much closer to the original studio tapes (which obviously it is). The XRCD has excellent mastering but the source is clearly at least one generation removed from the hybrid issue, and sounds slightly coloured or fuzzy by comparison to this. Thanks again, abryk!
